West African dance classes in Sydney

African Dance Classes for 2019 starting Sunday 27th January!

Yacou teaches Senegalese style West African dance in Marrickville every Sunday.  Styles include Sabar, Djembe and Doun Doun dance. The classes are dynamic, high energy and a lot of fun.

Yacou’s dance classes are relaxed and friendly. Beginners are very welcome! Open level.


11am – 12pm:   African Dance (General) – This class explores a variety of African choreographies and rhythms,  including Djembe Dance and Doun Doun dance. A dynamic class and a good introduction to African Dancing.  Beginners are very welcome! No dance experience necessary!

12pm – 1pm Sabar: (Traditional Senegalese Dance) –  This high energy dance style is a trademark of Senegal and a lot of fun for dancers of all levels of experience. Challenge yourself to master this unique dance style, while learning to interact with the drums, both choreographed and improvised.

*All classes dance to live African drumming.
